Mary Ann began knitting at age seven and started yoga in her twenties. Yoga transformed her life while knitting becomes increasingly more meditative and calming as she felt the yarn fibers slip through her fingers. Picking up her needles and quietly sitting to knit is pure peace for Mary Ann. With her love of color, texture, and weaving fabric. Mary Ann began to explore machine knitting. Attending classes at Fashion Institute of Technology, Mary Ann explored geometric patterns using a hand operated Brother Knitting Machine. Mary Ann's goal is to offer a line of knitwear using natural fibers such as Alpaca, Cashmere, Merino Wool, and Organic Cottons. An important distinction in the creation of Nahyat Designs is the quality of natural fibers Mary Ann uses: Lightweight with warmth, durability and easy care. Each piece is designed with a feel good comfort and the colors are inspired by nature.
